Smart Subsea Solutions were contracted on behalf of DONG Energy Renewables to ensure that appropriate and adequate data was acquired according to the contractual specifications for geotechnical site investigation services as part of the Walney Windfarm Extension development located in Irish Sea, United Kingdom.
DONG Energy Renewables contracted FUGRO Seacore to conduct the geotechnical site investigation to determine the ground conditions for the purpose of design and installation of the turbine mono piles.
Offshore operations were performed from the FUGRO Excalibur jack up in water depths approximately 25m. Boreholes were advanced using Geobor drill string with samples recovered using push and coring techniques to 40m depth. Calliper and natural gamma measurements, high resolution acoustic televiewer and wireline PS logging were all performed in selected sampling boreholes. In situ testing was carried out in adjacent boreholes from a 200kN top push cone penetration rig.
Smart Subsea Solutions Limited ensured that all DONG Energy Renewables’ geotechnical site investigation project objectives were accomplished and that all activities were conducted in a safe and cost effective way without adverse effect to the environment.
