The Gryphon Field is located in Block 9/18b of the Central North Sea. It is linked to the Gryphon FPSO (floating production storage and offloading) which is located approximately 280km NE of Aberdeen in 112m of water. Following a mooring incident in February 2011 much of the existing infrastructure required repair and / or replacement.

Smart Subsea Solutions were contracted through and worked in conjunction with Samphire Subsea to Maersk Oil to provide Client Representation on the DSV Bibby Sapphire during the Commissioning phase of the Gryphon Cluster.

The Commissioning phase included the successful completion of continuity, service and function testing of three subsea manifolds, four water injection, eight production, and one gas cap well.

A key responsibility for Smart Subsea Solutions during this campaign was the completion of Mechanical Completion Certificates regarding the as-configured status of the Gryphon Cluster for submission to Maersk Oil on the Gryphon FPSO.  Continual and close communication was required between the DSV Bibby Sapphire and Gryphon FPSO during this phase to coordinate simultaneous operations within the swing circle and to comply with the Permit to Work system.

The Commissioning works represented the final phase of the DSV Bibby Sapphire’s work at the Gryphon Cluster which was delivered to Maersk Oil, over a period of eight months, without accident or injury.
