Smart Subsea Solutions were contracted on behalf of EurOil for the company’s known expertise in providing offshore geotechnical input and engineering expertise.
Contractor Geotechnical Engineering and Marine Surveys Limited mobilized the four point moored MV Investigator from which drilling, sampling and in situ testing was performed utilising a heave compensated 5” API drill string. The purpose of the site investigation was to determine the suitability of several potential jack up locations. The combination of very soft clay conditions and associated water depths at the borehole locations meant that excessive leg penetrations were a significant engineering concern in the selection of their suitability and further use.
Smart Subsea Solutions supervised all activities performed offshore including the offshore laboratory testing of the primary very soft clay from mudline. Real-time engineering to determine potential leg penetrations of selected jack rigs was carried and close correspondence with EurOil in country ensured that all necessary soils data and engineering parameters were obtained.
Smart Subsea Solutions extensive experience and knowledge of operations in conditions experienced offshore in the West African region ensured that the project was completed in a safe, efficient and cost effective manner on behalf of EurOil.
