Smart Subsea Solutions were contracted on behalf of DONG Energy Renewables to provide technical and commercial expertise for geotechnical site investigation services as part of their windfarm development at Burbo Bank located in Liverpool Bay at the entrance to the River Mersey, United Kingdom.

DONG Energy Renewables contracted FUGRO Seacore to conduct the geotechnical site investigation to determine the ground conditions for the purpose of design and installation of the turbine mono piles.

Offshore operations were performed from the FUGRO Excalibur jack up in water depths approximately 25m. Boreholes were advanced using Geobor drill string with samples recovered using push and coring techniques to 40m depth. In situ testing was carried out in adjacent boreholes from a 200kN top push cone penetration rig.

Smart Subsea Solutions ensured that all DONG Energy Renewables’ geotechnical site investigation project objectives were accomplished and that all activities were conducted in a safe and cost effective way without adverse effect to the environment.
