Smart Subsea Solutions were contracted on behalf of Rialto Energy UK for services as part of their planned siting of the Transocean rig jack up offshore Ivory Coast, West Africa.

Geotechnical site investigation knowledge, engineering services and project management expertise were provided onboard the four point moored MV Investigator operated by contractor Geotechnical Engineering and Marine Surveys.

Drilling was executed with a heave compensated 5” API drill string in which all wireline sampling and in situ tools were deployed and utilised. A seabed frame was used a mechanism to provide the necessary reaction force to sampling and in situ testing. Boreholes were drilled to a minimum 30m depth and spudcan penetration analyses were performed in real-time to determine the suitability of each location in terms of punch though potential and leg penetration. The engineering analyses were based on the results of field classification and strength tests conducted in the offshore laboratory.

Smart Subsea Solutions input and recommendations during the operations ensured Rialto Energy UK site investigation project objectives were accomplished and all activities were conducted in a safe and cost effective way without adverse effect to the environment.
