Project Description

Smart Subsea Solutions were contracted on behalf of Chevron Upstream to provide geotechnical expertise, project and commercial management offshore for the Rosebank Infield Deepwater Core Geotechnical Survey site investigation.

To perform the required work scope Benthic Geotech Pty Ltd. mobilised their PROD unit (Portable Remotely Operated Drill) unit capable of recovering undisturbed soil samples, rock coring and performing in situ testing. An offshore soils laboratory to record and visually classify all recovered samples and perform data processing of in situ data was also mobilised to support fieldwork operations.

The PROD unit was deployed and operated from the dynamically positioned MV Olympic Commander in water depths approximately 1250m. The purpose of the investigation was to determine the suitability and design parameters for suction cans as part of the planned future development.

Geotechnical expertise provided by Smart Subsea Solutions ensured that good quality samples were recovered, good quality in situ data was recorded and that good quality testing of samples offshore was performed to the commercial satisfaction of Chevron Upstream.
