Smart Subsea Solutions were contracted on behalf of DONG Energy Renewables to continue their working relationship on the Walney Windfarm Extension development, located in Irish Sea, United Kingdom. This ensured much needed continuity throughout the project.

DONG Energy Renewables contracted FUGRO Seacore to conduct the geotechnical site investigation to determine the ground conditions for the purpose of design and installation of the turbine mono piles.

Offshore operations were performed from the MV FUGRO Commander geotechnical drilling vessel, equipped with a fully compensated drilling system, in water depths averaging approximately 25m. The BHs were advanced using a Geobor drill string, with samples recovered using push sampling and rock coring techniques, to a depth of over 40m. Data was also recovered using down hole in situ PCPT testing.

Smart Subsea Solutions ensured data quality from PCPT tests and sample recovery, together with overseeing detailed contract requirements, including all QHSE objectives and reporting throughout the Project. A thorough practical understanding of the Project objectives, Scope of Work, and contractual requirements allowed for the successful completion of the project in a safe, timely and proficient manner, aided by the generation of positive and professional work attitudes throughout the offshore team.
